The Shoot That Wasn't To Be..
Nov 30th
This Christmas Tribe are giving a out chocolate bars to clients. One of the bars contains a golden ticket and four bars contain silver tickets. The lucky winner of will get a iPad! runners up get a posh bottle of champagne. A lot of effort has been put into this campaign.. the other week I went to a printers to take some photos of them producing the wrappers used for the chocolate (they look very cool).
So to introduce this campaign to the clients we worked on a short video to explain what we were doing. Kate Wrote the script, Simon and Ben did the art direction. I was in charge of setting up, filming, and editing. We wanted the piece to be one single cut so remembering lines was a real problem. We shot about 80+ takes trying to perfect everything! The Beginning macro shots I did by playing around with the focus on my 18-105mm lens. I edited it mostly in After Effects then did all the sound in Premiere Pro. We did buy some little clip on mics but unfortunately the run we recorded there was some interference on Simons… so we had to use the sound from the camera hence the poor quality.
So it was all completed and went up on the custom site Ben had made when the decision came through to pull it
. Apparently it was a little too cheesy for the brand. This was a bit of a blow because we had spent mega amounts of time on it and the decision to scrap it could have been made a lot nearer to the beginning of the project… Oh well I guess this kind of thing happens a lot in the industry.. just some thing I have to get used to.. on a plus note I did learn quite a bit from this experience so all was not wasted….
Any way here’s the finished master piece.
And here’s some of the outtakes. All rather funny :p.
Signage Installation..
Nov 19th
Last Thursday me and Kate from headed over to Kelham to check out the signage installation that Tribe had designed for the Kelham House rebrand. My job was to get some snaps. I’ve gotta say the sign looks pretty pro.
Animating photos
Oct 19th
At tribe the guys are working on big project where they have to produce 80 posters for a big corporate brand. For one of the designs Paul came up with a cool idea where it looks like a ribbon is coming through the image. After a discussion we decided it might be quite cool if that ribbon could be animated in some way.
I thought back to the layered photo stuff I did for the Trent Snow Sports DVD and something similar could be used.
Below is the final animation. Use the slider to shift the video back and fourth. You should be able to notice the 3D effect.
Click more for a brief fly through of how it was done.
Some recent work at tribe uk…
Oct 14th
Ok so this is going to be a rather large post but its needed. I’ve finally got round to uploading some of the work I’ve been doing at Tribe. From now on I’ll upload more periodically to avoid such a lengthy post!
These projects aren’t in any particular order..
Tribe do a lot of work for eon. A recent job was to create the graphics and lay out for a exhibition stand. The designers at tribe came up with the produced the graphics. I then created these models form the layout plans.
Below are three different stands that have been made and set up at recent events.
Top left was the first model. This included the bar and stalls. The graphics were lacking colour in the render but that didn’t really matter. I rendered all the scenes with mental ray.
Top right was the second stand. It used most of the same panels as the first stand with only a couple being re printed. The lay out was more of an island shape where people could walk all the way around.
Bottom left is the third and most recent design. It was based on the original one but the far right panel was cut back removing the bar and stalls. This also had the updated colour graphics.
Bottom right is a concept idea for a portable collapsible display stand. This one hasn’t been made yet but might do in the near future.
Below is some renders of the first project I started working on at tribe. It’s currently on hold while we wait for approval for the final go a head. This is a pretty big project and it involves a mini city scape that will eventually be a interactive flash site!
Below is a still from a initial test animation. The idea is that text will peal out of the page as if it was paper. The effect is pretty cool! once its complete Ill post it up.
Below is a piece of abstract work that is being used as part of a A0 poster for the company GL. This went through quite a lot of development to get to this point. Originally the idea was thin flat sheets of acrylic in a 3D space.. that didn’t work so we kept trying different things until this came out.
Below is still form a After Effects project I’m currently working on. It involves different elements of information in a 3D space that the camera fly’s through. It will eventually be part of a interactive flash site. This project is really exciting because if we manage to pull it off successfully it will be pretty unique!
Below is a still from a animation of the tribe logo. I have a on going project at tribe to produce a show reel for them, so when I have some spare time I spend it researching cool effects and other little bits that will liven up the reel.
How I got work with Tribe Uk
Sep 1st
So now that Uni is well and truly over I was left thinking what do I do now! My Friend Alex is now working with a guy called Norm (aka Wasteyourself) They have set up their own little graphic design studio in Nottingham. Norm had sculpted this interesting character a few years ago and asked me whether I could create a 3D model of it.
So I got to work making this character. While I was making it Alex was doing some drawing on the studio walls at Tribe (A uber cool design and brand communication agency)…
When I sent him some test renders of the character Alex showed the people at Tribe. It just so happened they were looking for a 3D artist!
So we got in contact and I was briefed on my first project the following day! As of writing this I’m still involved in the first project. Tribe do a lot of work for Eon the power company. They wanted a interactive web based 3D visualization of a new smart network they are implementing in Milton Keynes. I completed the first stage of the modelling a week or so ago and they were so happy with the results they have given me 3 more major/minor projects including the production of their company show reel which will be great fun to make!
Last week marked Tribe’s 10th birthday so they celebrated by having a bit of a party in the studio. I was kindly invited along. Alex and Norm we doing a live drawing during the party… Here’s some photos of the studio and party..
There are more photos up on my Flickr…
I took this Stereographic Projection of the finished drawing..
Over all I’m really happy that Tribe have given me this opportunity to be working in such a good atmosphere with nice friendly people. I hope it leads on to other interesting and exiting things
