Joe at Dimension2 gave me a little heads up about these huge headstocks that were part of the Clipstone coal mine. We went to check it out with the helicam. The wind was pretty strong so flying was a little sketchy. The building has some serious security fencing around it now, so getting in by foot isn’t an (easy) option.

Here is an animated GIF I’ve made using screen grabs from Google earth. First shot is from 2000 when the mine was still operational. Second is from 2004, a year after the mine had closed. The last is from 2012 after the site had been cleared of all other buildings and mine related stuff.

When researching the mine, I came across the following pic shot at almost the same location. You can see how many other buildings used to surround the headstocks that have now been demolished.
