Stereographic Fun Time
Jan 26th
I found some more photos from my recent trip to the French Alps that needed editing. I had a bit of spare time last night so I got to work.
The First one below was a fairly easy job. There was minimal tweaking the only thing I had to remove from the stitched images was my shadow. This was really easy with this shot because snow is dead easy to clone with out being noticeable.
The second image on the other hand was a real mission! I got 8 friends to stand around me while I took the photos. This was a similar concept to this photo I took a few months back. It’s always difficult to take stereographic photos with close subjects because of parallax errors that occur between the shots.
Click the More link at the bottom of the page to see the process I went through to achieve the final result.
How I got work with Tribe Uk
Sep 1st
So now that Uni is well and truly over I was left thinking what do I do now! My Friend Alex is now working with a guy called Norm (aka Wasteyourself) They have set up their own little graphic design studio in Nottingham. Norm had sculpted this interesting character a few years ago and asked me whether I could create a 3D model of it.
So I got to work making this character. While I was making it Alex was doing some drawing on the studio walls at Tribe (A uber cool design and brand communication agency)…
When I sent him some test renders of the character Alex showed the people at Tribe. It just so happened they were looking for a 3D artist!
So we got in contact and I was briefed on my first project the following day! As of writing this I’m still involved in the first project. Tribe do a lot of work for Eon the power company. They wanted a interactive web based 3D visualization of a new smart network they are implementing in Milton Keynes. I completed the first stage of the modelling a week or so ago and they were so happy with the results they have given me 3 more major/minor projects including the production of their company show reel which will be great fun to make!
Last week marked Tribe’s 10th birthday so they celebrated by having a bit of a party in the studio. I was kindly invited along. Alex and Norm we doing a live drawing during the party… Here’s some photos of the studio and party..
There are more photos up on my Flickr…
I took this Stereographic Projection of the finished drawing..
Over all I’m really happy that Tribe have given me this opportunity to be working in such a good atmosphere with nice friendly people. I hope it leads on to other interesting and exiting things
iPhone 4 mini review…
Jul 20th
So its been a couple of weeks since I got my hands on the shiny new iPhone 4 and here’s what I’ve found…
My first impression of the phone is that it’s very good indeed. My old 3G was getting so slow nearly to the point it wasn’t useable, Certainly wasn’t enjoyable any more but with this new model the speed difference amazing! apps now load instantly and there’s no delay on the keyboard when entering text which makes a huge difference.
From the above Images you can see that I have got a new Gelaskin. I decided to get the same one as I had before because I liked the design so much
. The cover now has bits for the front and more importantly the sides which helps out with the signal issues! The skin lines up very nicely with the wallpaper which also looks pretty cool. If you have a iPhone and don’t want to compromise the look and feel I would highly recommend you get one of these skins. I had the previous skin on my 3G for nearly a year and it didn’t scratch, fade or peal off which isn’t too bad for a sticker.
I’ve been playing around with the camera quite a bit to see what its capable of and the following photos show this..
I’ve tried to select range of different environments to show how the camera deals with different lighting conditions. One thing I have noticed is the strange lens flare that occurs in very low light. You can see this in picture two below.
The video on the iPhone 4 isn’t to bad either. At 720p good frame rate and fairly good picture quality there’s not a lot more you can ask from a phone camera. I noticed that when in video mode the image is cropped more than picture mode which mean your subject has to be quite far away to get it all in shot.. any who check this short video I put together in Premier earlier…

The battery life on this new model is also greatly improved. I’ve been using it pretty heavily and haven’t needed to charge it that much at all. The multitasking feature is also super useful, This is something I’ve been waiting for since I got the original iPhone.
I’m not sure what else to say about it that hasn’t already been covered in greater detail on other blogs but my personal opinion is that this is a great piece of kit it works very well and is more sexier than ever. If you have the chance to get one go for it

Photo published in Left Lion
Jun 1st
If you live in Nott’s be sure to pick up a copy of this months issue of Left Lion. The photo I took of market square a couple of weeks ago is featured on Page 5. I was surprised to read that they have a estimated readership of 40,000 people! needless to say I’m super happy about this.
I’ve also been putting together the degree show DVD which proved to be super difficult due to the large number of links needing to be created and many other annoying factors.. More info on that soon.
24 Hour Time-Lapse Project
May 18th
Making a 24 hour time lapse is something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time now and I’ve finally done it! getting the camera set up right proved to be the hardest part. But now I know how its done I can improve the technique for next time!
So here it is..
If you click the Vimeo link below you can view it in HD… its worth it
24 hour time-lapse from Rob Antill on Vimeo.
So I set up the camera in my window facing west to capture the sun set (also away from any neighbours windows…) I put the camera to aperture priority mode and set the aperture to F4. When in this mode the camera will automatically take light readings and adjust the shutter speed so the scene is always lit correctly…ish.
I first set it off taking a photo every 24 seconds but realised that’s over 3000 frames in 24 hours! So I then set it to 1 frame every minute. I started the time lapse at 11pm and because it was shooting from a window I had to make sure I didn’t turn the lights on in my room to avoid reflections. Ideally it would be best to shoot it out side. I think next time I will shoot every 30 seconds that way the video will be a bit smoother.
Here’s some of the best stills.. I find it amazing how much the environment changes in a relatively short period of time!
Now that I have mastered the technique I can take the camera to some cool places.. One place I would like to take on is the top of our Uni building which is one of the highest buildings in Nottingham, views from up there would be incredible!
